First Few Weeks of Motherhood..

I'm finally catching up on my journal-ing.
All of these 'previous' posts have been written- I was waiting
to get my pictures uploaded.
Some things may be in past or present tense.
I am so ready to be all caught up.

I am beyond happy
excited, exhausted, terrified, in love
smitten, grateful, nervous
obsessed and exhausted..
I am now a mother!

I am so in love with our little boy
I can hardly contain  myself.
The first few weeks being home  have been great.
Since I had a C section I was lucky
enough to have my mother in law stay at my house
to help us clean cook and take care of our dogs.
My mom was in town too so she could come over
and help me with Daxton.

Adam got offered a new job as the superintendent/job supervisor
for Salisbury Homes and their Washington County projects.
He started this intense new job the day after we brought
Dax home, so things have been crazy.
I was so lucky we had extra help around the house.

We came home on a sunny spring day on Sunday, May 4th.
My parents and my mother in law helped get us packed
from the hospital and settled in at home.
It was so nice to have the extra help.
My parents were worried about my own health
and obviously of Dax's so they took very good care of us.

Adam drove very careful home and as we pulled out of the hospital
he turned on those hazards, haha. we had precious cargo.
Needless to say it was a bizarre drive home and
we were now an official family of 3 and were going to our home.
How crazy is that.

We had to go to Harmons first and get my prescriptions filled.

When we got to our house I saw a cute sign out front
with Daxton's information and cute decorations for the baby boy!
It was so nice of Donna to do!
I couldn't lift Dax and his carrier yet due to my C Section
so Adam carried him inside and we set him down
in his car seat still on our couch
Montana came over and we let her sniff him a little bit
She wasn't too amused but was curious.
It was an okay first meeting.
We were just trying to get settled a bit.
My parents offered to go get us some lunch and run to Wal Mart to get a few
things that we were going to need, like the right formula etc.
My Dad also picked up some basketball shorts for me, hahah.
He was teasing me that that is what I'm going to need to wear for a bit.
I was resistant but ultimately they were too comfy to resist.
My mother in law was a big help in getting our dogs fed and
keeping the house clean for us.
It was a huge blessing.

My parents came back and we had Chilis for lunch.

and then sat around and awed over our new bundle of joy.
He was perfect.

My parents came back later that night and got a few more

essentials for us.
My dad was also persistent on me walking and getting my strength back.
So him and my mom took me for a walk around our  neighborhood.
It took a long time but I couldn't move fast at all
I was wearing sandals that barley fit because I was still swollen
and basketball shorts and ... a lovely diaper for my post par tum bleeding :)
The walking helped and I'm glad my dad did that for me!

My brother and sister in law came over that night to

hold Dax and that was so sweet to see them with him.
It was fun to have visitors at home.

Little Dax was eating 2 ounces every couple of hours.

It was different being at home with him and getting use to
our own surroundings with a baby!

Our first night was a little rough.

I think Dax and I were just a little stressed
I decided to sleep on our recliner in the living room because
I didn't think my bed would be to comfy just having major surgery
and then I was close to everything in the kitchen.
I remember barley sleeping because I kept looking
at Dax and checking on him to see if he was breathing.
It was all consumed with thinking and worrying about him.
I remember around 3 a.m. he was not happy after
getting changed and fed and for some reason
I could not get him to calm down.
I was pretty worried. . Adam had woken up at this time
and so had his mom.
His mom offered to take him and try and console him
and she tried a few things ultimately swaddling him and getting him
to stop crying..
I instantly felt this emptiness that I was not
a good mother and he did not like me.
Literally I started crying in Adam's arms, like Daxton hates me..
he doesn't respond to me or doesn't want me.
It was a really sad very real feeling at 3 in the morning..
Obviously we both got over that
and Adam's mom had to reassure me that she just swaddled him
and he just simply needed that and it wasn't me
at all.. but it still made for a rough night.

After that we got a long with our nights a little better

That very next day Adam started a new job with Salisbury Homes
So he became very busy very quickly and had a lot of changes on his plate

I had my mother in law staying with us for a week and had my

own mom and dad and siblings around too
so it made it easier to be at home.

....

My maternity leave was fantastic! I was able to be home for about 7 weeks.
I was so glad!
The weeks went by way too quickly though and I was
incredibly sad.
I loved getting to know this little incredible person
and he instantly became the joy of my life
I really loved being home and getting excited for when
Adam came home from work and we could
stare at Dax together.
I also had my mom come over and visit almost
every day that I was home.
I was glad and lucky to have family so close by.

I am now writing these a little bit later on
and I just remember those first few weeks
trying everything and really experiencing all the newness
He was and still is such a content little guy, I'm so lucky.

I was so nervous to take him anywhere and I was so nervous
to shower or do anything even when he was sleeping.
I am glad I have grown out of that stage.
He sure was easy and happy even at only a few weeks old.

Here are some pictures that I took of our very first
moments at home together.

I remember this picture vivdly! We were at his first doctor's appointment
at Dixie Pediatrics- I am pretty sure he was only a few days or almost 1 week old!
He just smiled.. and I snapped a picture at the perfect time.
He is my happy boy!

Going to Aunt Taylor's graduation!

First trip up to Pine Valley!
